I’m starting a new endeavor. One of my girlfriends at work talked me into starting an Etsy shop. In fact, she started an Esty shop not too long ago and she’s doing GREAT! She and her husband are having great success with their shop The Vinyl Graphix Geek. Check it out when you get a chance. Anywho, I’m working 4 jobs and trying to make some money doing whatever I can. She suggested that I try my hand at earning money online instead. I currently have a few online shops but I haven’t done anything with them in forever. We’re talking Years but they earn enough to pay for themselves so I leave them up. About 4 times a year I get a surprise check or deposit for $50 or so from a few of them. The problem is that designing takes time. Something I don’t have a whole lot of. Anywho, she talked me into it so I thought I’d give it a try. This is my first design. I’m gonna try to get into the printable quotes business on Etsy. I still haven’t come up with a name for the shop. I’ll probably name it the same as the rest of my shops… “Designer Row”. So far I only have 4 designs and I’m trying to start up with 10. It doesn’t sound like a lot but I gotta make mock-up images for each design and descriptions and blah, blah, blah! I’m hoping to have it up and running in the next month. Wish me luck!
How do ya like this weeks manicure? I’m loving it. Sadly, the solid color pink nails were horribly chipped by Wednesday and the stamped nails weren’t chipped at all. That works for me. Repainting a solid color nail is a lot less work than repolishing and stamping nails any day. I even pulled out my little gems. I intended to do more with them but wound up doing a solitary gem. Once again, I wasn’t in the mood to be getting all detailed. Still turned out great don’t cha think?
Ugh… Tuesday night on the drive home from work I was beat for some reason. I told myself I was gonna stop at the Big Bird (aka Giant Eagle) and grab something quick for dinner. Wouldn’t you know that 45 minutes later I walked out the door having spent $65!!! And truthfully it was $55 because of some rebates I was using on iBotta. But still!!! Let this be a reminder to you all…. THIS IS WHY YOU DON’T GO TO THE GROCERY STORE HUNGRY! And you better believe the next morning I whipped out my crockpot. I can’t be having another incident like this one. I’ll go broke if I do.
On my personal Facebook page I asked my feed “what’s your favorite quote?”. Well, I got a bunch of responses but this one came up 3 separate times. I really like it and after hearing it so many times I’m pretty sure I’ve got it memorized.
I spy “Sippy Cup”. Do you see it? My honey and I stopped for a quick beer after we went to dinner on Monday. We went to Annabell’s. It’s a local dive we pop into every couple of months. And actually, we were there about a week ago. A friends band played downstairs and we went to support him. But I was tickled when I looked up and saw this. A friend I used to work with introduced me to the show Aqua Teen Hunger many years ago. I’m always saying “do what now” and she said it reminds her of an episode with Meat Wad. I tried to explain the whole thing to my honey but he thinks cartoons are stupid so he wasn’t hearing any of it.
Saturday I stayed home. Did some more designs for my etsy shop (which I have yet to create), cleaned a bit and painted my nails again. This time I played with my ultra fine glitter. I think they turned out okay. I also used a pink stamping polish over a pink nail polish. It’s a really subtle look but I like it a lot. Makes me wish my Born Pretty order would hurry up and come. I think I ordered one or two new stamping polishes.
Awhile back I said that the Born Prett nail stamping polish was crap. I couldn’t get it to work after several tries. Well, I don’t know what I was doing wrong then but they work just fine. Just as good as my MoYou brand.
I played hooky from work today. I was feeling a little weird this morning. I called off and went back to bed. When I woke up I ate and felt like my normal self. I decided to do my nails and they turned out pretty great!
I used a new technique for the multi color that I found on YouTube. Well, when I was done I immediately went to the Born Pretty website. A couple hours later I spent $38. I’m sad it’s gonna take a month to get here but I got some fun stuff. Actually, a lot of stuff. I figure I deserve it because I haven’t shopped this store in over 6 months… I was due, right? At least that’s what I told myself =)
These cup cake molds are adorable aren’t they? I just love ’em. I think doing red velvet cupcakes in these would be a perfect treat. Or even brownies! Oooh… Or small ice cream cakes. I bought 2 of them and looking forward to using them. My mom bought me a tied Cake Boss pan that I use all of the time. Maybe now I can give it a break.
I bought two of these. I’ve been dying to have one. I wanted it because it’s completely clear therefor I can see where I’m stamping the design on my nails. It doesn’t appear to be a very big stamp though, lucky for me my nails are rather short right now so the size of the stamp is no issue for me.
I thought I bought one of these the last time but it didn’t come in my order so I have ordered another on. I have all these rhinestone but they’re a pain to use because I don’t have an easy way to pick them up. This oughtta change that. Here’s hoping that this time around it’s included in my order.
You had me at Cats. Aren’t they adorable? I thought long and hard about whether I would actually wear kitties on my fingernails. I mean, I’m gonna be 40 years old this year! The answer was a resounding YES. Yes I would happily wear kitties on my fingernails cuz I’m cool like that.
I like the simplicity of these designs. I’d been wanting this plate before but hadn’t bought it. I did, however, save it to my wishlist. Well, when I checked today it was on clearance for a wopping 79 cents!!! I had to buy it.
I love the color of this glitter powder. I have vision of using glitter powder on my accent nails whenever I do my manicures. I watched a few videos and using it is a breeze. You don’t need any special products either. Just polish and the powder.
This was another image plate that was on sale. It only cost me 99 cents. Can’t beat that. Plus the design is very pretty IMO. I know I won’t be able to do the color the way it is in the picture but that’s okay. I think it’ll look good multi-colored or not.
I told myself that I wanted the chrome look but everything I’ve watched seems labor intensive and it doesn’t even last a week. Ain’t nobody got time for that. So I did the alternative and ordered some nail art foil.
I needed another bottle of my new holy grail. I didn’t buy this brand last time but I’m sure they all work the same. I don’t think I’ll ever not have this stuff for the rest of my life. It makes cleaning up around your nails a thing of the past. I grabbed two of these. That should hold me for awhile. Til I make another big purchase from the site.
And, I got one last plate. This two was on sale. It only cost me $1.59
And that’s it. I used a coupon code for 10% off. You always get free standard shipping. The total for my order was $37.71. I can’t wait til it arrives. Of course, it’s coming from China so it’s gonna take a month or so to get here. By then I will probably have forgotten all about it and be happily surprised when it arrives.
This manicure turned out so cute! And it was super easy. I did one glitter nail and on stamped nail. The rest were just polish. Doesn’t get much simpler than that.
I’ve been without my laptop for waaaaayyyy too long. You see, the keys on the left hand side started dying on me. When the “e” button stopped working I gave up on the machine and only used it to print coupons.
Fast forward many months and one night I’m laying in bed and suddenly thought, “I bet I could replace that keyboard myself for cheap”. Sure enough, I found the keyboard on Amazon for $13 + free shipping.
When the keyboard arrived about 3 days later I felt like a complete niccumpoop. It seriously took me less than 5 minutes to do. Ugh… Why didn’t I think of it sooner?! Oh well, I guess I’m glad ifinally thought of it at all because now I have a laptop again. Yay!!
I made myself fresh fruit cups ahead of time to take with me to work everyday. It was great! Just open the fridge, grab one and off you go! I need to do the same thing with salads. I ate so much healthier this week and I think I owe that to meal planning.
This weeks manicure! I think it’s my best one yet. I’ve been wanting to try different paint on different nails. The glitter nail is so fun but I wish I’d put a white base coat beneath. The polka dot is from an image on the new plates I got from Born Pretty. I sealed all with my gel nail top coat. The Pink nail polish was “Blazed” from Wet n’ Wild… It stinks. Why? Because I had to put on 5 coats!!! FIVE! The color is great but it’s not opaque enough and you need an obscene number of coats. I don’t even wanna tell you how many times I messed up and had to start over. At one point my boyfriend looks over at me and says “you’ve been at that forever”. Yeah… but it was worth it because I love the result.
My poor laptop has been virtually useless for several months now. The left side of my keyboard stopped working suddenly. I was only using it to watch movies and to print coupons. Then the other night I remembered how I changed the screen on my iPhone. Why couldn’t I replace a laptop keyboard?? Did a quick search and quickly learned it is the easiest replacement to do. I ordered a keyboard from Amazon for $14.XX with Free Shipping. It arrived in under a week and I replaced it in all of 3 minutes. Gosh I wish I would have thought of this sooner. Maybe now I’ll post more original content that I have my laptop fully functioning.
It’s been one juicy week. Raining several days in a row with spurts of high winds and light snow. Normally this weather would have me a little less energetic and maybe even lazy or crabby but I’ve found it very relaxing. Besides, it’s supposed to turn to snow by weeks end so better enjoy the rain because it’s downhill from here.
I order the $2 bags of soul fro LOWE’S and they accidentally charged me twice. Initially I bought 3 bags (1 cubic foot) of soil for $5.40 after tax. And then they processed me again. I decided to live with the mistake rather than get a refund. It breaks down to $1.80 per bag. You can’t beat that. So! 6 bags it is. But then I remembered that I wanted to try growing radishes so I grabbed two packs of seeds. While I was grabbing those I saw the plastic plant markets for $1.98!!
I was just saying in my 2016 Garden Goals post that I was gonna go the cheap route and buy dollar store spoons for markers. These are waaaayyyy cheaper and I may even wind up decorating them too! We’ll see. I’m not making any promises.
My girlfriend and I went in on the Bath and Body Works $3.00 promotion and split the shipping. It makes swallowing that fee a little bit easier. I’m now set for the year. Maybe even more. Each bottle just $3 plus tax. Yay!
I picked out some new scents this time:
Fresh strawberry lemonade
Black cherry merlot
Sea salt citrus
Kitchen Lemon is one of my favorites. I know it well. I buy a bottle with every order. Dawn bought 2 bottles. Her family loves it too.
I’m not big on selfies but every now and again I snap a good one. And I think the one above is pretty nice. A few passes of the tilt shift to blur the background and we’ve got ourselves a winner! I’m gonna make this a profile pic somewhere lol. Gope everyone had a GREAT WEEK!
This is a review on White Peel Off Liquid Tape & Peel Off Base Coat Nail Art Liquid Palisade. I bought it online from Born Pretty Store on February 28th (along with 7 other items) and received it almost one month later on March 30th. That’s a long time, I know, but I knew it was coming from China and things generally take at least that long to get here from China. I expected to wait so that was okay.
I am really excited about this product. This should definitely up my nail game. From my understanding, this glue is meant for people who do nail stamping. Often times the design is left on your skin around the nail and you wind up with a considerable amount of cleaning up to do. In walks this sort of latex polish (a glue) and the mess is a non-factor. GONE are the days when you had to dip a brush into acetone and then wipe away carefully around your fingernail.
I’m a horrible fingernail polisher and I know it. Especially when I’m painting the right nails with my left hand… Oy! That’s when the real cleanup happens. Until now.
It really is as simple as it looks in the photo. Paint it on the skin around your fingernails with the anti-overflow glue and let it dry. I tend to use a generous amount of glue for a better peel in the end. Too thin and it may year. Then you paint, polish and stamp your nails as you normally would. After I was done I simply peeled away the dried glue (we all did it as kids, remember?) on the skin around my nails. Done in less than a minute. I wish I’d found this sooner. This stuff is amazing.
In the past I once tried using Elmers Glue in the same manner. It worked well but it was too thick. The initial application was a pain. But the result was the same as the “anti-overflow glue“.
I would definitely recommend this product. You can buy it HERE.
In my opinion this is a pretty solid stamping polish. As you can see from my photo I used yellow stamping polish on a burgundy background. And on this dark background the yellow doesn’t “pop” as much as we would probably like but I’m sure you could double stamp and get the vibrant result you desire.
The polish stamps very crisp. I had no problems whatsoever picking up the design on my MoYou stamper. It also dried fairly quick. I waited about 5 minutes before applying a top coat to the stamping polish. It worked great. I had no smudges at all.
This is a good quality polish that I have no problem recommending to anyone. I don’t regret this purchase at all. It was affordable at only $5.42 per bottle and shipping is free! You just gotta be willing to wait a month at least to receive your order. Price fluctuates too so when you see it at a bargain price, buy it. There’s no telling when the price will go back up.
Oh. And did I mention this stamping polish comes in 19 different colors! I’m super pleased with this polish and I look forward to buying more colors in the future. You can purchase the yellow HERE.
VERDICT: I’m happy with all of my purchases from Born Pretty in this order. They did forget to include one item I ordered so it will be interesting to see how they handle it. I’ll keep y’all posted!
ORDER: Unfortunately I ordered 2 of the Lucky Bag for 2pcs Nail Art Stamp Template Image Plates ( 2 Random Types) but I only received one (blue squares on the right side of the photo). I contacted the company. I’m waiting to see how they handle it. Okay with getting a refund or even getting the plates. Honestly, the one set they sent me is so nice that is be okay with getting another set.
SHIPPING: My order from Born Pretty finally arrived. I say finally because it felt like it took a year. The package came all the way from China and it took one month and 2 days. I knew it would take awhile but it’s still a bummer to wait so long for something.
PACKAGING: I should have snapped a few pics but I didn’t. I ripped into the packages like a monkey on a cupcake. But trust me, the polishes were TRIPLE wrapped. And so were the dotting pens. Overall the packaging was superb! No complaints at all. Nothing in my order was getting broken unless someone did it deliberately.
1 – Sponge Toe Separators Soft Reusable $1.60 | These do what they are meant to do but don’t be fooled. These are not “soft”. In fact, I could understand if more sensitive tootsie were to have a hard time keeping these in. They are reusable but I wouldn’t recommend this product to anyone because you can get the same thing at any beauty supply or pharmacy store and not have to wait a month to get it.
1 – 4Way Nail Shiner/Polish Buffing Block Buffer $0.99 | Nothing spectacular. Just a simple buffing block. Decent quality. Like the toe seperators I wouldn’t recommend this product to anyone because you can get the same thing at any beauty supply or pharmacy store and not have to wait a month to get it.
1 –Starfish & Shell Theme Nail Art Stamp Template Image Plate BORN PRETTY BP10 $2.09 | this is Born Pretty stamping image plate 10. It is so beautiful! I’m super excited to add this to my collection. It stamps really crisp. Also, there’s a good deal of nail stamping tutorials using this exact plate to give you many design ideas. I would most certainly recommend this plate.
I was pretty excited to find these coupons in my email on Sunday morning. Even as a bargain shopper/couponer it’s sometimes very hard getting great deals on everything. Especially craft supplies because you mostly only get to rely on store coupons for that. Lucky for me these store coupons are 60% off! I can’t just let that coupon expire. I look at it two ways:
It makes me spend money because now I don’t want the 60% off to go to waste. Not necessarily a good thing.
Whatever I buy will be at probably the best price I’m going to get it for anytime soon. DEFINITELY a good thing. Especially when your hobby includes buying pens that cost upwards of $3.33 EACH!!!
I walked outta there paying $8.54 for 6 new micron pens. A pack of three regularly costs $9.99! The last one I bought at a Zentangle meeting cost me $3.50 for 1 pen. I saved $11.98. That’s not bad in my book. I would definitely do that deal again if it were to come up. But you could easily miss this deal. The coupon was in the Tuesday coupon inserts. Make sure you go through them EVERY WEEK. I know I sometimes get in the habit of automatically tossing them and that’s just not a good practice when I could be throwing away 60% savings.
I tried out my new color changing nail polish. It’s fun but it works better for people with longer nails. It’s kinda hard to see the effect when you have shorties like me.
And I didn’t do stamping this time. I did decals. The more and more I look at this manicure it gets odder for me. I don’t like the combo I did. If I was gonna use the decals then I should have worn a lighter polish. Also, there’s the whole “red and green equals Christmas” thing.
Doesn’t it figure, I did a perfect polish application on an ugly manicure. Lol
Speaking of manicures, a package of 4 (presumably) stamping polishes showed up at my place. I have no memory of ordering this which means it was an insomnia purchase.
Late night. Can’t sleep? Go shopping online!
Anyway, I am excited to use them though. It was a nice and very welcome surprise. And it means that my next manicure might be stamped. If so, I’ll be using one of these colors. I’ll be sure to share a review if/when I do so.
I took an infused salt class on Skillshare ad for your final project you have to make a salt of your own. I decided to try making a sriracha salt using the air drying method which takes 2 days! Doesn’t seem bad but it’s all I smelled for two solid days. The weather wasn’t such that I could crack the windows. Recipe was super easy:
1 tablespoon of Sriracha
1/2 Kosher salt (flaky kind, not coarse grain)
Mix the ingredients in a bowl.
Spread the salt on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Leave sitting out for two days. Stirring occasionally.
Pour into an airtight container.
This will be great for all those times I just wanna add a little “kick”. I’m one of those people who enjoys a nice spicy dish. Nothing crazy. Just enough heat to let you know it’s there.
Anyway, I had planned to share this with the guys however I wound up keeping it for myself. For one, I think it could be hotter. I only went with one tablespoon of Sriracha because I didn’t want the mixture to get so wet it wouldn’t ever dry correctly. Also, I was afraid of how hot the salt would be. It’s not hot at all IMO. I totally wish it was a smidge hotter. Next time, I definitely want to try it out with more sriracha. Maybe 1.5-2 tablespoons.
I have been using it ever since!!! I put it on basically everything. Because the hot flavor is so mild you can use this salt on ANYTHING. And maybe a more sensitive pallet will be able to better taste the sriracha? Idk. Having said all of that, I’m definitely glad I made it and look forward to making it again…. stronger and hotter if I can.
If you’re wondering about the class, it was just 30 minutes and nothing will blow your mind. He just shows you 3 recipes and explains a few things along the way. I will say that I’m glad I took it. I learned a new recipe that I’ll probably enjoy for years. I also took a mobile photography class that was just okay. Same as the other class in that nothing about it blows your mind but you walk away with a thing or two.
My dress that I ordered THREE TIMES (my own stupidity) finally arrived. Yahoo! I am so totally in love with it. The colors are fantastic! The length is just right. Maybe an inch or so above the knee. It’s chiffon so it’s very lightweight. The size is perfect. I ordered the extra large. I probably could have done a large but it might have been too short. The fabric isn’t my favorite but it’s what you get for $4. It’s so bright and happy and flowery. I love it despite the material.
I stopped at this cool little shop near downtown called Land of Plenty. They have all types of essential oils, clothing, old school home decor, homemade soap so, incense, gem stones – you get the drift. I took my time walking around there because it’s one of those places that has stuff sprinkled everywhere throughout the store. You could easily miss something. I originally went because of some Easter baskets I saw them advertise on their Facebook page. Once I got there I completely changed my mind. They even had a couple of plants. Air plants and resurrection plants. In fact, the woman who owns this place also taught the airplane class I went to with Vicki about 2 months back.
I walked away spending $48.99 much more than I expected but then I bought products I wasn’t expecting to buy.
1 resurrection plant
2 bath salts
1 patch (“Be Kind”)
1 gem stone
1 tin body lotion
1 bottle tangerine oil (divine! I’m using it to wash my face)
Even though I spent more than I intended the fact that I spent it locally makes it better.
I gave myself a second manicure because I thought the first one was ugly. And I tried to use my new polishes but I couldn’t get them to work. In fact, almost nothing worked for me this time around. It was not the smooth manicure it normally is. I tried each of my new polishes several times and could get not a one to stamp. Very disappointing. I’m sure it was just user error on my part. But after awhile I just gave up and went with what I know already works.
My eyebrows were beginning to get a little “cookie monster-ish”. I had to act and I had to act fast. I remembered seeing this tutorial and decided to give it a try.
In the past o have really done a number in my eyebrows. I’m too cheap to pay to have them done. And yet I wasn’t very good at grooming them myself. Until now that is. I swear this was the easiest method and produced the best results I’ve ever had. Just a word of advice, make sure to buy the kind for your FACE. I didn’t and I have some irritation in spots. Nothing serious or noticeable but it could have been avoided had I payed attention to what I was using.
I started out the week with some zentangling. I was trying out some new tangle patterns that I’d never used before. I’ve been looking for more tangles that do good as fillers. I’m not particularly fond of how these turned out but then again, practice makes perfect.
My mom had a conference to go to in beautiful San Diego and she was sweet enough to send me this lovely video of the water crashing on the rocks… Ahhh…. a far cry from my scene here in Akron, OH but a girl can dream =)
My Amaryllis bulb recently bloomed and it is SPECTACULAR! I just love the jewel tone of it. The stem didn’t grow very tall at all and I was worried it wouldn’t bloom at all. Glad I was wrong. I got the bulb at 50% off when I went to my wine bottle succulent class at the nursery. It was worth the $9.75 I paid for it. Makes me happy to see it every time I walk into my kitchen.
This weeks manicure wasn’t very well thought out. While it’s totally cute and I’m pleased with what I’ve done I completely forgot that it’s St. Paddy’s day this week. DUH!!! I should have GREEN nails and not gold/purple. So! I will be changing this manicure midway through the week. What d’ya think? Cute or nah??
So, here’s a short hair journey update. First I started out with the crotchet braids. I did those for 2 months. That process was sooooo long and labor intensive that I wound up buying a wig. I still wanted to play around with hair but I didn’t want to spend 8 hours installing it. I’m glad to say that I am still so totally loving my wig. It’s been a learning process but gosh I wish I’d tried this sooner. I do still corn row my hair beneath the wig. The protective styling is suppose to aid in the growth of my natural hair which has been minimal up to this point but my hair is MUCH HEALTHIER. I can honestly say that somehow my hair feels even thicker than before. So, that’s a positive. And I’m inclined to continue “wigging out” in order to encourage my natural hair growth. Also, to that end I started thinking about looking into those popular hair vitamins I’ve been reading about such as Hairfinity. The main ingredient of said product is Biotin. I’ve been taking Biotin for at least a year now and I saw definite improvement in my nail growth. They’re longer, stronger and grow faster. Nothing really changed with my hair though. So then I did more research and found out that Hairfinity and so on uses higher doses of the Biotin than I was taking. Previously, I was taking 2000-4000 mcg of Biotin but you can take up to 10000 mcg per day! My thought is that I can up my Biotin intake for much cheaper than I would need to purchase the Hairfinity pills. It’s worth a try. And supposedly, whatever your body doesn’t need is then released in your urine. So even if you take too much it won’t do any harm. Fingers crossed this works.
I took Thursday and Friday off of work thinking I was gonna have this wild St. Patrick’s day and nothing happened. I went out for one hour then went home. I spent the day doing some bulk cooking and meal planning. I did a few meatballs, lasagna rolls, homemade marinara (I would not recommend Tutturoso crushed tomatoes for homemade marinara. There’s better stuff out there.), and pork ribs in the crock pot.
I did meatless and meat sauce lasagna rolls. I used the homemade marinara on them. I’m not thinking I’m gonna be to wild about these but we’ll see.
And those ribs were AMAZING! I did a dry rub on them, set them in the fridge for 2 hours then cooked them in the crock on low for about 5-6 hours. They were fall off the bone juicy and tender. I finished them off by broiling them in the oven for 8 minutes. Man-o-man! Seriously finger licking good.
One of my indoor potato plants died off so I went digging around in the dirt and came up with this one tiny potato. Poor thing.
I spent much of my time off tangling I did these two on Friday from the comfort of my comfy bed as I watched sitcom reruns on Hulu. Doesn’t sound like much but it was GLORIOUS. So relaxing. I wish I could spend more days just tangling.
Saturday I had the misfortune of spending my entire morning and half the afternoon sitting at Sears auto. I was smart enough to bring something for myself to do because it’s never as short an appointment as they say it will be. I’m glad I did. I had 3 full hours to tangle this greeting card. Shading will come later.
I’m trying to master a few of the tangles. To master them requires practice so you’ll be seeing a lot of the same patterns in the tangle tiles I am doing these days. These feature Botanica and Vurve. Both of which I think I’m getting a good grip on. What d’ya think?
So since I’ve started doing my nails I’ve been learning so much. Including a list of tools that will help make your nail art experiences better. Most of these tools are SUPA DUPA CHEAP. So you won’t be breaking the bank. Thank goodness because ain’t nobody got time for that. There are more expensive alternatives on the site however I was just looking to buy what’s least expensive.
If you’re getting into nail stamping then you’ll probably wanna try your hand at the clearly jelly stamp. The neat thing about this one is that it’s completely see through so that you can actually see where you’re placing your design on the nail. This comes in handy when you’re doing a design that requires accurate placement. 5x 2way DOTTING Pen Marbleizing Tool Nail Art Dot Paint
In my opinion, this stuff is worth it’s weight in gold. Even before I got into nail art I would’ve been estatic to have this on hand. I’m horrible at nail painting and this little bottle of magic makes it so I can clean up my “oopsies” in no time flat. You just paint a decent layer on around your nail. Let it dry then paint your nails as you normally would. When you’re done you just peel off the liquid latex and it takes all your mistakes away with it. GENIUS!!
Well duh!!! Of course you need stamping plates. And there are so many to choose from. Hundreds. Thousands!! Who knows… I didn’t count them but you should be able to find just about anything.
Listen to me Carefully, it gets addictive. I started out with one plate 1.5 months ago. I now have 11. And no, I haven’t used them all. But every time I’m on a site – whether it’s Born Pretty, Konad, MoYou or anything else – I always see a plate that I just have to have.
The Nail Stamper & Scarper are also pivotal to the nail stamping experience. Remember, not all stammers are made equally. Some are firm, some are squishy. Some are XL for those with larger nail beds. Some are round and some are square. Trying new stammers and having a variety to choose from gives you an advantage. You may find that some stampers work better with different polishes.
I know what you’re think… Do you really need to buy the stamping polish? Well, no. There’s a good chance you have a few polishes already in your kit that will work just fine. They’d be the really opaque polishes. Every the goopy old ones work well. However, stamping polish IS formulated differently that regular polish. For one, the color is far more opaque and intense. And Secondly, the drying time is much faster. It may seem more economical now to work with what you have but for me – after a little while I realized the true value of stamping polish is that it works. Every time. Virtually no experimenting has to be done. Regular polish just can’t give you that guarantee. Not even close.
And that about does it for now. From my brief experience, these are the tools of the trade that I find most helpful. What things would you suggest?
The day finally arrived. It was the Extreme Couponing Event at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Akron. I left work early to attend a viewing and then go to the event. I wasn’t sure what kind of mood I would be in when I got there but I was fine. The glum from the funeral home wasn’t still hanging over me like it sometimes tends to do. Instead I was upbeat and anxious to get in there. I had visions of meeting all of these cool couponing people and maybe having my photo taken with someone who’s big in the coupon world. Grab a few free samples… Hand out my business cards and so on…. Start networking and see what advice I could gain.
Well, nothing like that happened. There was a line at the door – which I expected. I got there 20 minutes early on purpose. I anticipated a decent sized crowd. And I was right to do so. Sure, I was sitting there for 20 minutes longer but I got the best seat in the house and I chatted up the ladies around me. It worked out well for me.
There were people of all ages. Ranging from the really young (I’m guessing 9 years old) to the really old. Predominately women but there were approximately 10 men sprinkled about. If I had to guess I’d say the event held at least 100-150 people. They also claimed the event sold out. However maximum capacity at this event was about 75%. Still a very good turnout.
I won’t go into detail regarding the event itself except to say that she basically outlined how she saves her family $500/mo. on groceries and such by couponing and planning for 40 or so minutes per week.
For me, I learned absolutely nothing new. I would definitely say that this event is geared towards beginners. People who probably don’t know that you can generally plan your shopping trip days before the ad comes out just by researching the match ups. Put it this way, 90% of the room was floored when she explained what “stacking coupons” meant and that it is not illegal. All very basic and almost rudimentary in couponing techniques. For someone like me who’s been a passionate couponer for nearly 5 years – this event had nothing to offer. Unless you were wanting to try your hand at teaching a similar course – they were recruiting other “teachers”.
At the end the Speaker, Tiffany, explained that this “event” was put on and paid for by the Akron Beacon Journal. That’s why the tickets were complimentary. And that the Akron Beacon Journal had a “special offer” for the couponers who attended this event. The one thing that I could have found valuable or walked away with was a newspaper subscription for Sunday inserts only. $4.33/month up to 5 papers!! Whoa! And if the coupons hadn’t sucked so bad for me this year I might have gotten 2-3 subscriptions at that price. In fact, when I first started couponing I got a similar deal. But alas, I rarely ever use insert coupons anymore so I didn’t bother. Plus, I usually wind up with 2-3 copies of each insert between my home, my office and my boyfriend. I don’t need anything more than that.
Needless to say, people filed in line to get their crazy cheap newspaper subscriptions. The real winner was the Akron Beacon Journal. The line to get a subscription was just as big as the one to get in. Congrats to them on their success and for providing the event free of charge to the community. It was a win-win for all sides.
I received my dotting tool from someplace in China that I ordered online from. It’s a shame because I have another set of dotters on the way to me which I purchased online recently not knowing I had already ordered them. DOH!!
Anywho, I gave ’em a try and I like them. This design I found on YouTube. It’s supposed to look like lace however my nail beds weren’t long enough. I should have made smaller dots. Lesson learned. But I’m still pleased with the set. Thanks to using the dotting tool though I figured out that having a palette ring when I’m working with this tool would come in handy. So… Naturally I went to Born Pretty and found one that I need to order (along with a host of other stuff).
I got my final check from Snap By Groupon. They’ve recently changed the rules of rebate offers they will give. I took a look at the app a week ago and in pretty certain I won’t use this app much longer. I’m more about “product” rebates and not do much “store” rebates. Time will tell.
Just last week I was making a mental note that I’m out of my lady shower gel and to keep my eyes peel for any good BBW sales. Lucky for me this promo came in the mail and it has a freebie coupon on it. HOLLA! It’s a small freebie but a freebie none the less. I’m hoping to make a mall trip this weekend to use this freebie coupon and the ones for Staples.
I have two $10/$10 purchase coupons expiring next week. I usually just take the coupons to the store and then see what household products I can buy for $10 then just pay tax. Usually air fresheners, Febreez, Clorox Wipes, Paper Towels or Toilet paper, ink cartridges, trash bags, binders, markers, calendars, K-cups… Whatever I need.
I bought the cork tiles to hang over my desk. I thought they’d be a fun way to display some of my zentangle tiles. I’ve already put them up but I haven’t figured out just how I’m going to display my tiles yet. Initially I wanted to cover them in burlap but now I’m thinking I just want to leave them plain. Or do I want to paint them??? Sigh… decisions, decisions. I grabbed a pack of erasers – also for my zentangling. And lastly, I grabbed a large bottle of glue. Not only to use as a glue but I also read somewhere that you can use Elmer’s glue like liquid latex when you’re nail stamping. Why not give it a try?! After using my $10/$10 coupon I paid $2.43 for all three items. NOT BAD AT ALL.
You can get these coupons too. All I did was sign up for an account on their website. Every now-and-then they send me the $10/$10 coupon. I NEVER let those go to waste.
My paper whites have started to bloom. They’re so lovely! I know some people hate the smell but I love it. It’s so nice having live flowers in the house. They really are one of life’s simplest pleasures. And even with them just being white they add a certain prettiness to the house. I’m glad I got them and am debating on whether or not to try planting them once their blooms have expired.
The last Zentangle class I went to a couple of the women had these super duper bags that seemed to have a slot for everything. They’d gotten them at Michaels for $40 or so. Good for them but I wasn’t paying that much. I even snuck a photo of one thinking I could probably find something similar but cheaper. I finally went on Amazon and found it for less than $17 shipped in two days. The one I ordered is snazzier than their solid black however it is smaller. The two do have some obvious differences but I’m sure they both work the same.
It’s called a Medium scrap booking organizer (I believe they’re using the LARGE) but clearly you can use it for other stuff. Especially Zentangle and adult coloring supplies. This girlie has:
12 outside pockets, including zipper and Velcro
5 inside compartments with pen loops
Isn’t she a beauty?! I can’t hardly wait for Monday to get here. I’m gonna be organized in style for a fraction of the cost. It got great reviews so I’m not worried about the quality at all. Stay tuned for my review of this product next week.
Everything I have should hopefully fit into this bag. Prior to this I’d been carrying my things in this giant plastic bag I got from Macy’s or somewhere. I was late about 15 minutes at the last class and lemme tell y’all, everyone knew me and my bag were there. I was making SO MUCH noise getting settled. Me and this extra crunchy, loud bag and I couldn’t find anything in it. Those poor people surely couldn’t hear the instructor over me. I was actually a little bit embarrassed. Glad to know that won’t be the case ever again once my bag arrives. Yahoo! If you’re interested you can grab the bag here for $16.92 free prime shipping. It’s an Amazon purchase so the price could change at any minute.
Speaking of Amazon… I have now ordered this dress 3 TIMES in less than one month. Thank goodness you have the option to cancel your order.
That’s the problem with ordering from Amazon. I always forget to check whether it’s being shipped from the US. Sometimes they come from China and it takes FOREVER to arrive. So long that you forgot that you’d already ordered it.
This dress better hurry up and get here. Even though I have a feeling it’s gonna fit like a sausage casing. I couldn’t resist it’s bold pattern and bright colors. I’m hoping I don’t wind up looking like I’m wearing my grandmothers couch.
If it even looks halfway decent then I will post a pic and links to the dress once it arrives… Exactly one year from now :p
